I’m sure for many people stuck in dead-end marriages, it can feel like a lifelong prison sentence. For Lawrence John Ripple, 70, from Kansas City, his marriage was even worse.

This dude was so fed up of his wife that he decided to rob a bank last year, just so he didn’t have to live with her anymore. And this week he got one step closer to his wish as he pleaded guilty to the U.S. District Court.

Ripple was released on bond after he was charged last year and was accompanied with none other than his wife yesterday. Although he refused to comment to reporters, he pleaded guilty without an agreement with prosecutors. The prosecutors and defense attorney are now free to discuss what sentence they think is suitable and the judge will be sentencing at a later date. If they really wanted to punish him for his crime, they should just let him walk free to go back to his wife. Clearly that is the worst option for old Ripple.

This dude was so determined to get caught that he robbed a bank just a street away from the local headquarters. The CCTV showed footage of Ripple handing a note to the teller, which reportedly said, “I have a gun, give me money.” After being handed the money, instead of fleeing Ripple simply sat down in the bank lobby and waited for the police to arrive.

When questioned by the police and FBI agents, Ripple said that he and his wife were always arguing and that he, “no longer wanted to be in that situation.” Surely a divorce would’ve been the easier option but either way, it looks like Ripple will soon be getting his wish. At least he didn’t do anything drastic like murder his wife. That would’ve been one hefty sentence.
