As if pretty much everything good in the world hadn’t already been linked with causing cancer, it turns out that now chicken nuggets are too.

If you’re anything like me then this will be absolutely devastating news because chicken nuggets are obviously one of the best foods in history, but all is not lost as the study isn’t 100% sure of the pattern yet. The fact that they’ve discovered one doesn’t bode well though.

The study has found that a 10% increase in ultra-processed foods consumed was linked to a 12% increase in cancers. The study also found that 18% of people’s diet consisted of ultra-processed foods and that processed foods made up 50% of the average person’s diet in several developed countries. This could be a major factor in rising cancer rates.

If confirmed in other populations and settings, these results suggest that the rapidly increasing consumption of ultra-processed foods may drive an increasing burden of cancer in the next decades.

However, this is a relatively small study and would need to be confirmed by more large-scale research to confirm the link between ultra-processed foods and cancer. Other factors such as being overweight, smoking, excessive drinking, and a lack of exercise also need to be considered.

So basically live a healthy life and try and cut out ultra processed foods. That’s probably good advice anyway, but damn if I’m not gonna have me some chicken nuggets every now and again. It’s just got to be done, even if to does cause cancer. Live fast, die young I guess.

For more chicken nuggets, check out this chicken nugget festival coming to the UK this summer. Still gonna attend that too.
