A Mutilated Body Just Washed Up On The Olympic Volleyball Beach Venue

In the last couple of weeks alone, Rio de Janeiro – the site of the 2016 Olympics – has seen gangsters shooting at cars on the main highway leading to the Olympic village, and locals pretty much confirming you will die if you visit this summer.

This is in addition to Brazil’s general rising crime rates, their recession, the ongoing impeachment of their president, the threat of the Zika virus and the fact that the Olympic village isn’t even close to being finished, 5 weeks before the opening ceremony is due to begin.

So the last bit of PR they need is a mutilated body washing up on the beach in Rio just metres from where beach volleyball athletes will compete in the Olympics, and yet here we are.

It’s unclear what led to the mutilated body being in the ocean in the first place, and police are remaining tight-lipped.

Can it actually get any worse between now and August 5th? Maybe if a bomb went off or something but then that might actually be what’s best at this point, considering these Olympics are destined to be an absolute disaster. There aren’t even enough police, ambulances or firefighters available because no one’s bothering to pay them.

They literally handmade a sign saying as much and held it up at the airport so tourists can’t say they weren’t warned:

They don’t have hospitals either:

Oh, and a crucial subway link to the Village isn’t due to be finished until 2 days before the Opening Ceremony. Great.

Good luck to you if you’re going – shoot us an e-mail if you survive your trip (fingers crossed!) and let us know how you got on.
