Michael Phelps, the 23-time Olympic gold medalist, has challenged Conor McGregor to a swimming race.

The swimmer posted the suggestion on his Twitter account just three days after McGregor’s infamous loss in the boxing ring to Floyd Mayweather last week.

Although the question was kind of tongue in cheek, so was the idea of Phelps racing a great white shark and that still happened. The idea has certainly grabbed people’s attention, as the post has been retweeted over 53,000 times.

McGregor hasn’t responded as of yet, but I wouldn’t hold your breath. He’s still recovering from his loss to Mayweather and that was in a sport that is related to his specialty. McGregor attempting to compete in a sport that involves an entirely different element would be like a duck out of water. Especially against a guy who broke a 2,168 year old world record set in 152 BC. No chance.
