One of the most pathetic attempts to steal a motorbike ever caught on camera went down in Abercromby Square in Liverpool this week, after two masked thugs lacked the muscle necessary to keep the bike from repeatedly falling over.

It really is a sad scene on so many levels:

Tragic stuff. Haven’t these two lads heard of Weetabix?

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said:

“We can confirm that we received a report of an attempted robbery in Abercromby Square in Liverpool on Tuesday 6 June. At around 2.30pm it was reported that two males attempted to steal a parked motorbike by using a lump hammer to break a lock.

Members of the public tried to intervene and the two suspects fled the area on an electric bike. Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch. If you have any information, get in touch via @MerPolCC quoting reference 23000486879.”

It’s a shame all the witnesses didn’t team up to rush them, pin them down, and rip off their disguises but I guess no one was keen on the idea of getting whacked in the head with a hammer. Still, you’d think they would at least feel a bit emboldened after watching these boys’ inability to hold up a motorcycle. 10/10 for effort though – will give them that.
