Watching porn is about to get even harder thanks to a new UK law, which could see the UK public having to register at the post office before being able to sign onto their favourite porn sites.

This is all due to new regulations which will make age verification mandatory, meaning that all porn users would have to prove that they are 18 or older before accessing sites such as PornHub.

There are several potential routes for when the age verification law comes into action. Users might have to enter credit card details or share their mobile contract info, but even worse is the idea of approving your device for porn access in person at the Post Office. I highly hope that the former options are chosen – just imagine the depressing crowds of horny wankers queuing up out the door of their local post office. Not cool.

This is part of the Digital Economy Act, which became law recently after receiving immediate Royal Assent. The government has been talking about an obligation for porn sites to verify the age of its users for some time now in an effort to stop underage people from accessing inappropriate material. If websites don’t comply with the rules, then they could be fined up to £250,000 or 5% of their turnover.

The only issue now is how to implement the new rules – obviously requesting any personal details, from credit card details to post office verification, comes with its own issues and the government has even admitted that forcing porn users to expose their identities could be a step too far, so it’s likely going to be a bit of time before the new law can be enforced. I guess all we can do now is wait and pray that the future doesn’t mean our identities are instantly tied to our porn habits.
