The internet has been going crazy over the bank holiday weekend with the news about the tumultuous divorce of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard following Heard’s allegations that Depp beat her up and smashed her in the face with an iPhone.

Although none of that has been proven and it all seems like it’s all about the he said she said bullshit at the moment, it hasn’t stopped the members of both of their entourages weighing in on the issue. The latest person to take a side is comedian Doug Stanhope who penned a lengthy open letter about the subject in which he claims that Amber Heard was actively trying to blackmail Johnny Depp.

Here’s the key passage from it:

He opened up in the most vulnerable of ways… that Amber was now going to leave him, threatening to lie about him publicly in any and every possible duplicitous way if he didn’t agree to her terms. Blackmail is what I would imagine other people might put it, including the manner in which he is now being vilified.

Johnny Depp got used, manipulated, set up and made to look like an a–hole. And he saw it coming and didn’t or couldn’t do anything to stop it.

Ouch. Pretty blunt analysis of the situation there from Stanhope  – and not even really that sympathetic towards his friend Depp. Of course, there’s no way to tell if what he’s saying is actually true, but it serves to add another twist in the tale for what is almost certainly going to be remembered as the year’s messiest divorce. Expect another shocking revelation about the two tomorrow probably.
