Jeremy Corbyn as well as shadow chancellor John McDonnell have been asked to perform at this year’s Glastonbury festival.

Obviously this isn’t the first time that union leaders have taken part in events and debates at Glasto, although Corbyn’s appearance would be the first time a party leader has appeared.

Reports have stated that the pair are likely to discuss the Campaign For Nuclear Disarmament on the main stage. As you well know, Corbyn famously opposes nuclear armament and was previously criticised for attending one of their anti-nuclear rallies in February this year.

However, songwriter Billy Bragg who curates the Left Field Stage at the festival praises Corbyn’s impact on activism:

The election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader has galvanised a new generation of activists, and this year at Left Field we aim to give them a platform to discuss issues around social justice, the economy, gender and the possibilities for genuine change under a Corbyn government.

Well, if that does go ahead and Corbyn and McDonnell do end up speaking at Glastonbury that’s going to be a pretty interesting and informative talk. Particularly if it’s surrounding the CND, which is obviously a hot topic with regards to government spending and international relations. Plus Corbyn is an incredibly articulate and well-informed man — just look at him shut down Krishnan Guru-Murthy when he interrupted him on Channel 4 News.
