The death of Prince has left plenty of people rattled these last couple days, but I don’t think anyone took it as badly as this teacher here.

Matthew Patterson was filmed by one of his students breaking down in tears after he’d stuck Purple Rain on the projector for the class to listen to.

Patterson, who teaches at Banneker High School in Georgia over in the States, says:

It hit me like a ton of bricks.

I talked about what Prince meant to me as an artist and a brave performer and a person unwilling to take stuff from record companies.

I’ve been listening to Prince since I was seven. I must’ve spent thousands and thousands of hours listening to Prince. I was just a huge fan.

Damn, that’s actually pretty sad. Celebrity deaths are weird in that you’re getting emotional over someone’s death who you never knew, but at the same time it makes sense, especially when it comes to musicians. Everyone loves music and everyone’s been touched by certain songs. If the musician responsible for songs that are special to you died, it would probably hit you pretty hard too.

A+ move by Mr. Patterson sticking on Purple Rain for the class though. Hope he’s having a good weekend.
