Jason Manford posted a status last night that caused a storm – resulting in his Facebook profile being shut down.

Following the attacks on Paris, Manford took to the site to voice his opinion on the tragedy. But Facebook deemed that his opinion was a bit too strong and breached their guidelines, so they deleted his entire profile.

His outburst, while a tad more sweary than normal, was pretty spot on in fairness. His fans have supported him by sharing screenshots of the post that got him in trouble.

It said:

Fucking cowards. Slaughtering innocent unarmed people for what? Families and children enjoying life, theatre, meals? Not an army vs army you fucking cowards.

For what? In whose name? Are you doing this in the name of your god? Cos I’ve got news for you, if you think your ‘god’ is gonna reward you for this type of atrocity then your god is a massive cunt.

I hope you are all caught and murdered in a similar agonising way you fucking scumbags.

You are an embarrassment to humanity and a shit stain on all of humanity. You will never defeat us, we are too strong you utter bastards (sic)

He has still been active on Twitter, interacting with fans on both sides of the fence over this. Some people dubbed him ‘Islamophobic’, and even compared him to former EDL tosspiece Tommy Robinson, while others praised him for speaking his mind and being vocal about it.

He defended himself against the Islamophobic jibe, understandably – because he isn’t and the post wasn’t. It was aimed directly at the killers involved, and he didn’t so much as hint at religion. I personally think people are reaching if they’re going down that route.

He’s actually quite refreshing online. Amongst most other celebrities and comedians who seem to solely post about upcoming gigs and DVD releases, he has a very personal vibe to his posts and includes a lot of opinion, which is a good thing. Even if you think he’s a dick and disagree with him, at least he’s being honest, and there are definitely a lot worse Facebook posts around.

His profile has been made active again this evening, but his post from last night is missing. So it turns out he can’t condemn killers without breaking the rules in their small print.

It could be a lot worse, to be fair. Online bookies Paddy Power have had to apologise with their tail between their legs after they sent out this rather ill-timed push notification ahead of race meetings today.

They have issued a formal apology, stating that the notification was scheduled to go out before the Paris tragedy occurred.
