Dr. Dre Set To Become Hip Hop’s First Billionaire, Selling ‘Beats’ To Apple For $3.2 Billion

Apple have lined up a monster bid of $3.2 billion (£1.9 bn) for Dr. Dre’s headphone maker Beats Electronics, which will in turn make Dre the first billionaire in hip hop history. Suck on that Jay-Z!

Dre and fellow music producer Jimmy Iovine founded Beats back in 2008, and by 2011 were saying they hoped to “eventually be second to Apple” as its streaming division took off to supplement the success the firm had with its headphones. Instead, they’ve decided to let Apple buy them out, which is probably a way better option all things considered.

Apple are mainly interested in the streaming service as they plan to create a Spotify-style on-demand music service.

The deal will also be the largest acquisition Apple has ever made.
