Just when you were worried he might actually be in with the slimmest of chances, Donald Trump has been disowned by the White House and disqualified from the running to become US President.

The White House said his call for an out-right ban on Muslims entering America led to officials asking Republicans to reject him ASAP.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said:

The fact is what Donald Trump said yesterday disqualifies him from serving as president.

For Republican candidates for president to stand by their pledge to support Mr. Trump, that in and of itself is disqualifying. The question now is about the rest of the Republican Party and whether or not they’re going to be dragged into the dustbin of history with him. And right now the current trajectory is not very good.

Secretary of State John Kerry added:

I would simply say that non-discrimination and equal treatment are a pillar of not just American values but of our immigration and our admission policies in this country and the State Department remains totally committed to treating all religions with respect and without discrimination.

Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook rounded it up:

Anything that bolsters ISIL’s narrative and pits the United States against the Muslim faith is certainly not only contrary to our values but contrary to our national security. (There are) many men and women in uniform today of Muslim faith who are serving this country patriotically.

So that’s that then. I guess you could say it was an entertaining run while it lasted but I don’t think anyone with a brain ever took the idea of Donald Trump as President seriously.

I guess it’s a shame we’ll never find out what that master plan to beat ISIS was.
