Dead pigs are used as models for human decomposition so that we can understand what happens to a body in the ocean and use this to interpret decompositional patterns and rates and as well as the marks left by scavengers, in human death investigations.

The cage is used to keep out sharks but as you can see within minutes loads of sea lice are all over the pig’s carcass, eating it from the inside out. In a matter of days, all that’s left is the skeleton.
