Tyson Fury did what he’d promised he’d do for years last Saturday night when he beat Wladimir Klitschko and became the new world heavyweight champion.

Before the fight, David Haye suggested there was no chance Fury would beat Klistschko, but that’s the way it turned out after the Ukrainian put in a bafflingly lazy performance and Fury took the victory on points.

After the fight, David Haye challenged the new champ to a fight, but somewhat surprisingly, Fury has refused, calling Haye a “pretender” and “a fraud” and insisting “he is getting no opportunities from us”.

I remember him saying that he’d never give me a payday. Well, the shoe is on the other foot now.

If he gets a mandatory shot with any of the governing bodies, I’ll vacate the title. Let him go and fight Fred Flintstone or Joe Bloggs and make no money.

Remember, these two were scheduled to fight twice in 2013 and Haye pulled out of both fights so it’s not like Fury hasn’t welcomed the challenge before, though now he’s world champ things are understandably different.

Haye reckons that Fury knows deep down that his style would be too much for him:

He has to realise I’m not after him, I’m after what he has – the belts.

It says a lot about a new champion that he’s saying he won’t fight the man who would generate the most amount of interest and money, and would be the biggest possible fight on the planet for him.

He knows that my style would absolutely murder his style.

Haye, who hasn’t fought for 3 years, is fighting Mark de Mori in January. Looks like he better focus on that for now judging by this stare-down the other night:

Meanwhile, Fury is awaiting a decision from Klistschko on whether he’d like the rematch he is entitled to.

Sounds like Fury is 100% positive he won’t be fighting Haye, so the best Haye can do is beat De Mori and then hope that he can get under Tyson’s skin enough to change his mind.

Speaking of British champion boxers – here’s what Prince Naseem is looking like these days.
