Ukrainian farms saw hundreds of mutated animals born with missing limbs, deformed skulls, no eyes, weird ribs or other abominable anatomical anomalies. It must have been a pretty bleak time. Most people in the modern world don’t really understand how an invisible radioactive cloud can mutate animals, let alone a rural Ukranian farmer in the 80’s.
The “zone of alienation” is a circle surrounding Chernobyl 60km in diameter. No one should enter, unless they fancy growing extra fingers or whatever. The zone is deserted, other than around 300 locals who refused to leave. The towns, roads and cities have been handed back to nature to re-colonise, and have pretty much been completely overrun by plants and animals.
