It’s always a big effort to decide how you’re going to spend Valentine’s Day because it’s literally the one day of the year that everyone is trying to surprise their other half with some king of grand romantic gesture, so there’s a lot of competition out there.

Of course, you could always choose to celebrate it in a low key way and book a table at everyone’s favourite pasty restaurant Greggs instead as for the first time in their history, they’re opening their takeaway restaurants to the table service experience. Here’s what a spokesman said:

For the first time in our history, we wanted to offer the public the opportunity to enjoy their Valentine’s Day evening in the comfort of their local Greggs. This is the ultimate Valentine’s treat for the Greggs fan in your life.

The one-night-only menu will be made entirely from your favourite products but given a special Valentine’s twist. Sausage rolls and romance can go hand in hand. Whether you’re on a first date or have been married for 30 years, we guarantee it will be a night to remember.

Yeah, it certainly sounds like it and to be fair it does sound like the food is going to bed warily decent as well. The meal begins with a section of canapés featuring seasoned pork and puff pastry slider, steak & blue cheese en croute, katsu tortilla wrap, Mexican chicken chipotle spoon, béchamel toasted honey cured ham square and tomato gazpacho – sounds very nice – and then continues with a main course of your choice of signature Greggs puff pastry parcel, freshly baked to order, accompanied by oven roasted spiced potato slices and a garnish of fresh Apollo and spinach leaves and sunblush tomatoes. Mmmm, baked to order.

There’s more after that too, as you’ll receive a Belgian dark chocolate brownie, raspberry and almond bite and caramel shortbread as dessert. You’ll also be able to drink Prosecco all the way through your meal too and it’s only going to cost £15 for two people. Yes, that is only £7.50 each which is one hell of a bargain, although I suppose that’s what you expect from Greggs really isn’t it?

The bad news is that this experience isn’t going to be averrable in every single Greggs in the country and is limited to the shops in Manchester, Cardiff, London, Newcastle and Glasgow. If you’re lucky enough to be in one of those cities though and want to celebrate Valentine’s Day in this way (who wouldn’t?), then reservations are open on February 7th through OpenTable. Imagine you’ll have to be quick though.
