Bob Mazzer, born in Whitechapel, London, has been travelling the tube since the 70’s – and he always takes along his camera. The photos he’s produced are like a million snapshots of humanity in transit.

In the 70’s and 80’s he worked at a porn cinema called “The Office Cinema”, so-called so that punters could tell their wives they were “at the Office“. On his return journeys he saw a nice little cross-section of society and snapped as much of it as he could.

Below are a small section of his massive back catalogue of work, but before we have a look, here a couple of quick Tube facts for you:

More than 1 billion people use the underground system in London on a yearly basis. The trains travel 76.2 million Km per year. There are 430 escalators, and the longest is at Angel – 60 metres. The deepest station below ground level is Hampstead (Northern line) – 58.5 metres down. Bang.

Bob Mazzer:

“Every day I travelled to King’s Cross and back. Coming home late at night, it was like a party and I felt like the tube was mine and I was there to take the pictures.”
