Bolivia’s government have turned up its nose at billionaire Bill Gates’ offer to donate 100,000 chickens to people living in poverty worldwide, including Bolivians.

Rural Development Minister Cesar Cocarico said:

I find it rude, because unfortunately some people, especially in the empire (the United States), still see us as beggars.

We don’t depend on chickens. We’re advanced. Our people have dignity and they know how to work.

Obviously Bill Gates didn’t mean to offend Bolivia’s leftist government. The guy just wanted to donate some chickens to impoverished countries in an effort to fight extreme poverty.

Cocarico continues:

He does not know Bolivia’s reality to think we are living 500 years ago. Respectfully, he should stop talking about Bolivia, and once he knows more, apologise to us.

Blimey, Bolivia. Don’t take yourselves so seriously. Can’t say I know enough about Bolivia to weigh in one way or another but I do know that you can always use 100,000 extra chickens no matter which country you are. This guy saying “We don’t depend on chickens. We’re advanced” makes no sense at all. I had chicken for lunch, dinner and a Chicken and Mushroom Pot Noodle for desert today and I live in an advanced country last time I checked.

Does Bolivia even know what ‘advanced’ means? Hard to say. They do have zebras directing traffic so I guess they’re pretty advanced.
