Two years ago, Barack Obama asked for advance episodes of Game of Thrones and True Detective ahead of release — and got them. Obviously as President of the USA he’s got loads of free time to watch unreleased TV exclusives before everyone else. Maybe that’s why Libya turned out the way it did?

This month, Obama was granted access to episodes of the highly-anticipated Game of Thrones season 6. In an interview at the Hollywood premier of Game of Thrones (yeah, there’s a cinema premier before it gets on TV), David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed Obama had asked for and received an early viewing.

When asked by an interviewer about stand-out moments they’ve had while filming the new season:

I think, for both of us, finding out the President wanted advanced copies of the episodes was an ‘aha’ moment. That was a very strange moment.

When asked if they sent them:

Yes. He’s the leader of the free world. When the commander-in-chief says ‘I want to see advanced episodes,’ what are you gonna do?

Liam Cunningham, who plays Davos Seaworth, said in another separate interview:

Did you know (Obama) gets advance copies? He gets DVD copies before we do. And we’re in it!

Looks like Obama’s trying to get in all the perks of being President while he still can. I get it. He’s the leader of the free world who’s coming to the end of his run. He’s not going to be in a position to request advanced Game of Thrones episodes for much longer. Might as well take advantage while you still can.

Meanwhile, the rest of us have to watch trailer after trailer and wait until April 24th for the first episode. In the meantime, get a load of the actual casting call for a penis-flasher than used in season 5. You couldn’t make it up.
