If you grew up in the 90s, then chances are you enjoyed watching the cartoon Animaniacs because it really was ridiculously stupid and at the same time, ridiculously awesome.

In case you missed it, Steven Spielberg was the executive producer and it followed the adventures of a whole bunch of completely weird and bizarre characters like the protagonists Wakko, Yakko and Dot, as well as such luminaries as The Goodfeathers, Chicken Boo and Pinky and the Brain. There really wasn’t anything like it on television at the time, and I don’t think there’s been anything like it since either. To say it was ahead of its time would probably be an understatement – just check out this highlight reel and some of the ridiculous innuendoes it managed to get away with for a hint of just why it was so awesome:

Great, right? The show enjoyed a new lease of life thanks to its appearance on Netflix, and there are now rumours that Spielberg, Warner Brothers and Amblin Entertainment are all in talks/negotiations to bring it back in the present day.

There aren’t any details available currently at this point, as it’s still in the early stages of development, but the mere fact that people are talking about it should be enough to get you excited. Sure, I might be about 20 years older than I was when I first watched the show, but it’s already stood the test of time and I think that a new series would do as well, especially if the same people were involved again. Can’t wait to see how this turns out.

For more 90s cartoons, check out a bunch of them that now all have drug problems. Depressing.

P.S. While we’re on the topic, let’s take a moment to appreciate Yakko’s Nations of the World:

Classic.
