The two-time champ visited the area to help out with the aftermath of the recent devastating floods. He went door-to-door through the worst hit areas, giving families food packs and toys to children that had their homes destroyed.

Following his visit, grateful residents took to social media to thank him.

25 year old Nicole Fox posted a message on behalf of her aunty, saying:

Took some of our kids who have been made homeless by the flood to meet Amir Khan today. He has to be one of the nicest people I have ever met.

He was really late because he spent time with every house he could. He must have given away tens of thousands of pounds of food and aid today with a team of 40 volunteers.

He was clearly really shaken by how bad things are here in Carlisle.

Amir’s brother, Haroon, who joined him on the relief mission, said:

Amir is here because he wants to put smiles on people’s faces. Some have lost all of their Christmas gifts in the floods. We have been giving out presents and toys for children.

We want to show them that we are here for them a week after the floods. We don’t want the rest of the country to forget their plight because for them it will last a long time.

It’s not his first relief mission, either. This time last year he helped to rebuild a school in Pakistan where 141 children and teachers were killed in a Taliban attack, and this summer he sent seven aid trucks to Lesbos, where he personally gave it to Syrian refugees.

Fair play to the guy. It’s great to see a celebrity helping out in such a personal way.

But while he is very charitable, he definitely isn’t to be taken for a mug, as these car thieves discovered.
