It’s interesting to try to imagine what the future holds, but it’s also damn near impossible to get it right. Nostradamus, Gary Spivey, Jesus, they’ve all had a crack at it but no one really has a clue. That’s probably a good thing though, if anyone had been able to predict that Kim Kardashian was going to take over global media there might have been a mass suicide.

Below are some jobs that used to be important but then completely disappeared off the face of the earth as technology caught up and took over. I wonder whether your job will stand the test of time? I certainly hope mine doesn’t.

1) Bowling Alley Pinsetter

Being a pinsetter was an OK job but the pay was crap and the shifts were mostly in the evenings, so it was generally teenage boys who filled the position.

In 1936 Gottfried Schmidt invented the mechanical pinsetter which was the nail in the coffin for the pinsetter boys. Instead there would be just one bloke employed called a “pin monkey” who’d stand close by to sort out any beefs with the machine.
